Kent Parry, owner of Parry's Office Supply at ZCMI Center, said he'd very much like to stay downtown during the redevelopment. He said as much to mall management earlier this week when they told him about the forthcoming announcement, but he received no assurances.
"They said they might find a place for me over at Gateway West, but there was no official promise," Parry said. "I reminded them that when I was originally contacted to come in here, the two leasing agents that talked to me gave me a verbal commitment that they'd find a place for me during the remodel. But that was 3 1/2 years ago, and I certainly understand that their plans then are radically different from what their plans are now. We're just kind of right now in limbo."
Robert Vunder, spokesman for the U.S. Postal Service, said the USPS is "still considering our options" and that Property Reserve Inc., the real estate investment arm of the LDS Church and developer of the new project, has yet to present it with a plan or proposal for what happens next.
"We've been in discussions with PRI, but we don't have any agreements yet," Vunder said.
Parry said he expects to remain open through the holiday season at his current location on the mall's second level near Mrs. Cavanaugh's. After that?
"I don't know," Parry said. "I believe we've provided a good service, and I've enjoyed being here. Ideally, I'd like to find another space downtown. It's the old saying: location, location, location. It really does bear sway."
