NEW BOARD MEMBERS

The Utah Winter Games has named four new members to its board of directors.

They are: Raelene Davis, director of marketing for Ski Utah; Karen Pena, principal owner of Turnkey Events Inc.; Tom Jordan, regional bureau chief of Metro Networks; and Christa Graff, founder of Graff Public Relations and former communications manager for Deer Valley.

The Utah Winter Games is the oldest and biggest amateur winter sports event in the country. In 2005-06, its 20th anniversary season, more than 3,000 people took part in 20 competitions in 15 sports and 32 instructional clinics.

SNOWBIRD SKI SWAP

The 27th Annual Snowbird Ski & Sport Swap will be held this weekend.

The swap will open Friday and run through Sunday on Level 2 of the Snowbird Center. The swap provides an opportunity for skiers to pick up or sell used and new equipment at reduced prices while raising money for the Snowbird Sports Education Foundation.

Swap hours will be noon to 8 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $2 per person or $5 per family on Friday. Saturday and Sunday admission is free. Equipment check-in begins at 11 a.m. Friday.

This is also the last weekend of the Snowbird Oktoberfest. Hours are noon to 6 p.m., and admission is free.

ELK TAGS AVAILABLE

Deer tags are gone, but there are some elk permits still available.

The last of the deer permits were sold on Sept. 25.

There are still spike, any bull and general muzzleloader bull elk permits available. The elk hunt opens Saturday.

The spike bull hunt ends Oct. 15, and the any bull hunt ends Oct. 19. Hunters who buy a spike bull elk permit must hunt only on spike-only units, and hunters who buy an any-bull-elk unit permit must hunt only on any-bull-elk units.
