• The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and its partner developers will apply for demolition permits with Salt Lake City in the coming weeks.

• The church will also seek city permits for items including excavation for parking, creation of parking, access to the project site and building.

• Only one construction element now appears to need Salt Lake City Council approval: a proposed sky-bridge, which would require the council to sign off on an exception to current zoning.

• This month, the church will gather public comment via a Web site, downtownrising.com, and with open houses at sites throughout the city.

• Demolition of the existing malls is expected to begin in November.

• By January, retail stores in the demolition area will be closed.

• By next spring, the church plans to conclude agreements with retailers who will occupy the new development.

• Architectural drawings for the development will be completed by 2007.

• The church expects the project to be finished by mid-2011.
