Salt Lake County Councilman Randy Horiuchi hopes motorists soon will be driving on Japan Town Street.

The Salt Lake County Council on Tuesday passed a resolution urging the City Council to rename 100 South between 200 West and 300 West in the old cultural community's honor.

Horiuchi said Japan Town thrived before the eventual construction of the Salt Palace demolished many of the businesses in that block. Renaming the street will honor the Japanese community and the rich history of that block, he said.
