Now that the toll study has been released, the state Transportation Commission will probably take the next year to review the details and make a decision about whether to impose tolls on Mountain View, said Transportation Commission chairman Glen Brown. Much of the decision will be based on public input and political will in the Legislature.

"The money really rests with the Legislature," Brown said. "The Legislature will have to come up with the 600-and-some-odd million dollars if the commission says we want to make it a toll road. But we don't have the resources to build unless the Legislature provides the resources to come up with the $641 million."

Over the next three to six months, Newell said her Mountain View team will be working to decide what route the highway should take in Salt Lake County. A decision is expected about the Utah County alignment sometime in the next six to nine months, she said.

Several public meetings are also planned to talk about the tolling analysis. On Wednesday, the legislative transportation committee is expected to hear a presentation from UDOT about the study.

The meeting will begin at 9 a.m. in Room W015 in the House Building of the Capitol complex.
