Some 21 companies have signed on so far for a trade mission to China with Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr.

The weeklong mission, organized by the Governor's Office of Economic Development, will be focused on economic development, education and tourism.

"This is an extremely important outreach effort for the state and I am encouraged so many Utah companies are working to expand into the global market China offers," Huntsman said.

Some colleges and universities may also be participating, according to a news release issued by Huntsman's office.

The companies, which will cover their cost of the trip, will meet with Chinese government, U.S. Embassy, and local Chinese economic development officials.

"This trade mission will give Utah companies a head start by opening the right doors and facilitating relationships, both political and commercial, that are critical for companies to succeed in China," said Brett Heimburger, GOED Asia director. "The long-term opportunities for Utah companies in China are extraordinary."

Organizations applied to go on the trip and were chosen based on four criteria: whether they fit within key industry clusters, job creation opportunities for Utah, clear company objectives and products/services that are a good fit with industry needs in China.

A tentative list of invited companies includes: Audio Enhancement, Cytozyme, Door-Oliver Eimco USA, Energy Solutions, Industrial Supply, Lifetime Products Inc., Nature's Sunshine Products, Nu Skin, Orbit Irrigation Products Inc., Parker Aerospace, Petersen Inc., Propay, Tahitian Noni, The SCO Group, USANA, Wencor Group, Western Leisure Travel Agency, Xango, Zero Manufacturing Inc. and Zions Bank.
