A 48-year-old Salt Lake County man and his 14-year-old son were rescued Sunday night after they became lost on a mountain-biking trail near Big Mountain at the top of East Canyon.

Salt Lake County Sheriff's Sgt. Thad Moore said the two were not injured and were doing well after the Utah Department of Public Safety helicopter located them and flew them to safety about 8 p.m.

"They were just on a bike ride on Great Western Trail and they just got up there and got confused as to where they were at," Moore said. "They did what they were supposed to do. They called and asked for assistance via cell phone.

"They were low on water and didn't want to push any further."

The two called for assistance about 6:25 p.m., Moore said.
