Harness that restless power within

Have you ever felt like the inside of your head was a bag full of ping pong balls bouncing around in several or maybe hundreds of directions at one time? I have called this running around like a chicken with its head cut off. In the past I have made reference to my hound dog chasing 10 rabbits at once and how she would not be able to even catch one unless she focused on just a single rabbit.

We are like this. Our minds start racing and we start on one thing and then another. Before we know it, we are trying to do 10things at once, and the house gets pulled apart before our eyes. When we wake up from our tizzy, we find that we have accomplished absolutely nothing, although we have worked ourselves into a frenzy. We were just spinning our wheels.

When we're moving fast but not getting any place, then we need to stop and harness this energy. This energy is going to come out one way or another. We can practice using this energy for good, or we can let it play havoc with our lives. You have a choice.

Your first choice is to step outside of yourself and see it happening. Recognize the signs. Get a friend to help you see this expending of energy. Some of us use the telephone and talk to defuse the clutter that is screaming in our heads.

Story continues below

For several years now I have thought that my dear, dear friend had a lot to great ideas to help people with their parenting skills. She would call me on the phone and do a verbal brain dump and then call another person to explain her idea. Once she had processed the idea verbally she had nothing left. The energy was gone! It had been unfocused, unharnessed and, like the air in a balloon, slipped away, buzzing all around the room. We have to figure out a way to capture this energy.

Last night we came up with a plan. It was another one of our acronyms; WRITE. This is what I wanted her to do, anyway. Many times in conversation when she would have an idea; I would say WRITE to her in big letters. I told her when you have all these thoughts racing around your head you have to WAIT to call someone. Sit down and REASON through your idea on paper. Use your INTELLECT to TEACH and EXPOUND upon your idea.

When you feel yourself headed for this tizzy stop and focus this energy to come out of your fingers, too. A simple notepad that you keep in your special place will help you. Jot down your ideas so you don't forget them.

The reason we get in such a tizzy about something is that we need instant gratification. You know this feeling. We need someone to say "Good idea!" But an idea is not good unless action comes from it. It becomes that balloon buzzing around a room. Harness that balloon and fill it with your ideas and set it free to FLY and bless the world.
