School libraries gain Laura Bush grants
Timpanogos Elementary in Provo, Independence High in Provo and Gunnison Valley Elementary in Gunnison received grants from the foundation to create or expand book collections.
"Timpanogos received $5,000 and will use the funds to build a larger collection in our library of Spanish books for upper-grade students," said principal Diane Bridge.
The Spanish books will be for native speakers and students enrolled in an English-Spanish dual immersion program in which students are taught equally in both languages to gain proficiency in both.
The Laura Bush Foundation receives donations from individuals, corporations and foundations. Committees decide which schools will receive money.
