A sign "All of the course closed for storm cleanup" shooed away would-be golfers Wednesday morning. Play resumed on 18 of the course's 27 holes at 1:25 p.m., with golfers on the Executive Course playing around a downed tree on the right side of the first fairway.
Trees were on their sides all over the city, with roots grotesquely torn out of the ground and exposed to blue skies ringed by soft, innocuous clouds. Including the golf course, Billings estimated that 335 trees were down in city parks.
Head pro Kean Ridd said the back nine holes at East Bay might not be open until Friday.
At the same time as the first golfers began play on the altered course, a UDOT crew was using a crane to hoist up the fallen freeway sign that announces the southbound exit on I-15 for University Avenue at 1860 South.
The airport was closed after dark Tuesday night but was expected to resume operation Wednesday night with a generator providing power for runway lights, Mendenhall said.
Building inspectors declared two homes in southeast Provo uninhabitable.
