But the new oval Oreo Dunkers might indeed be worth an extra trip to the store. Their embossed messages "Dunk Me," "Soaked, Soggy, Dry" and "Milk This Way" (with an arrow pointing down) are adorable. Although regular Oreos dunk just fine, these are more fun! Since they're slightly larger than regular Oreos, they have a few more calories per cookie. One Dunker contains 65 calories; one Oreo, 53. So be careful about how many you dunk.
Carolyn: Here are two new limited-edition Oreos that richly deserve to become a permanent part of the Oreo portfolio. And "rich" is the right word to use when it comes to Oreo Dulce de Leche, an upscale offering with a filling that has a true, strong burnt-sugar flavor and color. (In fact, to look at it, you might think the flavor was cappuccino.) The caramel flavor seems to get lost in many chocolate-caramel ice creams and in some chocolate-caramel candy. But Dulce de Leche Caramel Creme is strong enough to hold up to even Oreos' dark chocolate wafers, to which it provides a great contrast.
Stonyfield Farm Organic Frozen Desserts. Vanilla Chai Ice Cream, and Raspberry White Chocolate Chunk Frozen Yogurt. $3.69 per pint.
Bonnie: Stonyfield Farm's new organic Raspberry White Chocolate frozen yogurt contains fewer calories and much less fat than its equally new, also organic Vanilla Chai ice cream, and it holds the promise of the raspberry flavor that I love. But it tastes so flat and dull that it's not worth its modest fat and calories.
By contrast, the new Chai is wonderful, bursting with the spicy flavors of tea, ginger, cinnamon and other spices you'd find in a glass of Indian chai. It also has as many calories and as much fat as a scoop of Ben & Jerry's Vanilla.
No one needs to eat frozen treats. So when you do, they should truly be exactly that a treat. Just try to restrict yourself to half a serving (a quarter-cup) of Stonyfield Farm Vanilla Chai.
