The rough breakdown for the graduate costs: $300,000 to implement and administer graduate programs, $600,000 to hire advisers, $600,000 for instructional needs for graduate programs, ranging from equipment to teachers.

During the 2004-2005 academic year, 389 faculty members were full time and 1,028 were adjunct.

The numbers concern Senate President John Valentine, R-Orem, who believes the the school needs money to hire more full-time faculty.

Valentine also is concerned that UVSC did not receive money from the Legislature from 2000 to 2003 to correspond with huge leaps in growth. The economy at the time was slow, tax revenues were less than usual, and the Legislature suspended growth funds during that time.

"I would like to see some funding that would be in addition to the base funding we give to our universities to recognize the institutions like UVSC that grew during the years we did have the institutional funding," he said.
