Aaron Meachan from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints hangs a banner from a skid of supplies to be flown to Indonesia for earthquake relief. Truckloads of first aid materials and hygiene kits were rushed from Salt Lake City Tuesday to victims of Saturday's earthquake. The supplies were taken from LDS Church welfare and humanitarian storehouses in Salt Lake City and loaded onto a 747 cargo jet provided by Islamic Relief Worldwide. The aid was expected to arrive in Indonesia today. Within hours of the quake, LDS Church members in Indonesia prepared and served more than 2,000 meals to those in need in stricken areas. Hygiene kits were distributed and cots, mattresses and blankets were purchased locally and provided to an orthopedic hospital. LDS Church leaders in Indonesia report that all missionaries are safe and no deaths have been reported among church members.
