The 400 North option also is a compromise. The two Utah County alternatives in the environmental impact statement that call for a southern freeway originally had it connecting to I-15 at the Lindon/Pleasant Grove interchange.

The revised alignment splits the ramps from the freeway and connects them with I-15 at 400 North, reducing the amount of traffic at the existing interchange and improving I-15 performance, Newell said.

UDOT is proceeding with the 400 North option as the "assumed alignment" for the southern freeway, she said.

"We feel this is the best combination," Newell told city leaders this week. "That's why we brought it to you."

Newell said UDOT will meet with city officials again in July or August after the impacts of the Mountain View Corridor alignments are known.
