Youth movement: 4 freshmen will join team this fall with eye on filling future void at QB

"I look at John (Beck) and he was thrown right into the mix," Doman continued. "Not only did he not understand coverages, understand what he was doing and was trying to execute the play the best he could, he was still kind of a missionary. Now, he's making a lot of the same mistakes over and over again because he never had the chance to learn. Next year (2007), we're going to have to play a young quarterback. Hopefully, after that, we won't do that ever again."

Doman is looking forward to working with the four newcomers this fall.

"They're all different, which is nice," he said. "By next spring, they'll all have had a year under their belt. Max Hall will have had a year at Arizona State, and a year at BYU. If he's the guy that plays, it will be different because he will have had two years of college football, whereas the other guys are coming off their missions and won't have had any football but one fall, then they'd be expected to play. Hall is one guy who has somewhat veteran status. The other guys will be brand new. Whoever wins the job, it will be interesting to see what happens."
