In March, Viracon, a glassmaking company based in Owatonna, Minn., said it would build a $25 million, 225,000-square-foot glass fabrication facility in St. George, adding 300 new jobs to the area.
"Very clearly part of their decision-making process was influenced by our proximity to Las Vegas," said Hirschi, who added that he has seen a significant increase in inquiries over the past months by businesses interested in moving locating to the St. George area.
Allan Carter, director of developer services for St. George-based Southern Utah Title Co., said St. George's weather, open space and diversity also make it attractive for business.
"I think the bottom line about St. George is when you get done with your day and you see the scenery and you feel a part of something that is low density with as much open space as this area has, you've just got to feel good about living here."
