Harpist recital tonight at U.
Van Voorhees' program, which she has dedicated to the people of Louisiana and their music, features works by her teacher Marcel Grandjany, along with classics by Claude Debussy, Camille Saint-Saens and Gabriel Faure. Accompanying Van Voorhees will be violist Claudine Bigelow and flutist Jane Wadsworth in Debussy's Sonata for Flute, Viola and Harp, and violinist Hasse Borup in Saint-Saens' Fantasy for Violin and Harp, op. 124.
The other pieces on the program are Grandjany"s Fantasy on a Theme by J. Haydn, op. 31, and his Harp Album, op. 27, and Faure's Impromptu for Harp, op. 86.
Since Hurricane Katrina displaced the musicians of the Louisiana Philharmonic, Van Voorhees has been invited to play with orchestras in Detroit, Pittsburgh, Los Angeles, Tampa, Portland, Utah, St. Louis and New York. For years, she has been the principal harp at the Grand Teton Music Festival in Jackson, Wyo.
Van Voorhees is an avid recitalist and chamber musician as well, and has released eight CDs and has frequently performed on PBS and NPR.
