Petersen, Michelle Condie, Emily Proctor, Amren Patterson and Heidi Huber worked at Amidon. Two more BYU students — Freda Christenson and Diana Dimond — student-taught at nearby Wilson High School.

When a position opens at Amidon, she hopes the new BYU graduates will apply.

"We were so impressed by them, personally and professionally," Barber said.

BYU will award an honorary doctorate to former BYU President Merrill J. Bateman during today's commencement exercises at 4 p.m. in the Marriott Center.

A member of the Presidency of the Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Elder Bateman served as president of BYU from Jan. 1, 1996, until May 1, 2003.

Elder Richard G. Scott, a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of the Church of Jesus Christ, will preside at the exercises, and Elder Robert D. Hales, also a member of the Quorum of the Twelve, will conduct the exercises and be the commencement speaker.

Both KBYU-TV Channel 11 and KBYU-FM 89.1 will broadcast the exercises live.
