PROVO — Sen. Curt Bramble, R-Provo, walked about 1 million steps during the legislative session and won $1,500 for the nonprofit foundation of the Provo School District.

A check was presented Tuesday at the Board of Education meeting.

Bramble — with Reps. Jeff Alexander, R-Provo, Becky Lockhart, R-Provo and Margaret Dayton, R-Orem — were on a team that competed against other teams of Utah legislators in the "Legislators on the Move," a national campaign sponsored by Regence BlueCross BlueShield.

Bramble said he awoke at 4:45 a.m. at the Little America Hotel, where he stayed during the legislative session, and headed to the hotel's gym to use a treadmill for 1 to 1.5 hours.

"It brought a consciousness to exercising, to doing something besides riding the elevator. . . . The competitive side of it made it fun but it was also a serious side with problems with obesity, cholesterol," he said.

He also acknowledged that the money, which will be used for girls sports at Provo and Timpview high schools, will help "bridge a little gap between the Legislature and the district."
