Outdoor notes
Hours will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. It's part of the DWR's Becoming an Outdoors Woman program.
"This open house is for everyone, including women who have never shot a gun before," said Jill West, volunteer coordinator for the DWR.
Suzi Farley, a volunteer hunter education instructor, will be available to answer questions and help shooters.
The cost is $5 per trap round, which is about 25 shots. Shotgun shells can also be purchased for $5 per box, or women can bring their own. Those who have their own shotguns are encouraged to bring them, but the gun club will provide free rental shotguns for ladies who do not have their own gun.
For more information, call Farley at 801-966-7522.
HUNT PERMIT RESULTS
Hunters can expect to find out the results of the big game permit drawing by April 28.
Those who applied for a 2006 Utah big game permit should receive a letter by April 28.
Results of the limited entry, once-in-a-lifetime and Cooperative Wildlife Management Unit permit draw also will be posted at Division of Wildlife Resources offices.
Those who applied should also receive a list of the permits that weren't taken in the draw.
"All of the limited entry, once-in-a-lifetime and CWMU permits will probably be taken in the draw, but some general buck deer permits may still be available," said Judi Tutorow, wildlife licensing coordinator for the DWR. "If you don't obtain a buck deer permit in the draw, you can obtain one of the deer permits that weren't taken in the draw. The remaining permits will be available on a first-come, first-served basis beginning June 15."
Permits to hunt bull elk during Utah's 2006 general seasons also will go on sale June 15.
For more information call one of the DWR offices or the main office at 801-538-4700.
