Garcia credits antique booksellers with helping in that investigation. Sanders on Wednesday posted a list of the stolen goods on the bookseller's association Web site.

Sanders and Garcia noted that the theft marks the third time in the past year that rare Mormon books have been stolen in Salt Lake City.

Last year, a small safe containing two early copies of the Book of Mormon were taken from the LDS Institute of Religion at the University of Utah. Several months ago, an 1840 copy of the book was taken from the Beehive House, a home of former church president Brigham Young and a popular tourist destination in downtown Salt Lake City. Garcia said he didn't believe any of those items had been recovered.
