The work by Schneider — a member of RDT from 1989 to 1995 — depicts a grove of trees under a summer storm. "I love summer storms," he said. "I used to work at the Sundance Outdoor Theatre and used to sleep outside all the time down there. And some of my favorite times were when a storm would blow through.

"As you can tell, I'm a nature freak. And I liked how this painting caught my emotions."

Schneider said he enlisted seven of the eight RDT dancers for his work, Angela Banchero-Kelleher, Thayer Jonutz, Listing, Nicholas Cendese, Josh Larson, Alissa Schirtzinger and Chien-Ying Wang. "I wanted a lot of movement in the work, like rain and wind. You know, I wanted to create a storm on stage."
