Other famous works by Friberg are the Book of Mormon paintings and the well-known painting "Prayer at Valley Forge" depicting Gen. George Washington. Other subject matters are American football, American West, royal Canadian Mounted Police and portraits of England's royal family.

Burrows said Friberg started art professionally as a teenager sign painting in Arizona and cartooning for the Arizona Republic. He said seeing other great works of art inspired Friberg.

Burrows, artist and illustrator, said he met Friberg in the 1970s when he helped him with the advertising for the showing of the royal portrait of Prince Charles before it went to England.

"He's a wonderful man of integrity and master painter," he said.

As Friberg gets older, his passion for painting is not subdued.

"He's 92 and he paints every day," Burrows said. "I think it's what's keeping him alive — is to leave something spectacular for the world."

Bingham said art is not something someone retires from.

"If you're a real artist it would take more determination to subdue the desire to paint," Bingham said.

He said the reason Friberg has gotten so good is because of his desire.

"That desire to create never dies — if I live to 102, I'll probably think that I'll just be starting to figure things out," Bingham said. "When you get to the age of Arnold Friberg he's learning things none of us will learn for years to come."

Bingham said it is not talent that makes someone good at at something; it is his or her aspiration for it.

"I admire his willingness and his desire to master the craft to create visual art," Bingham said.
