There's a new police chief in Salt Lake City.

Steven Marlovits has been named by Mayor Rocky Anderson to be the new chief for the Salt Lake City International Airport.

Marlovits will step in for Craig Vargo, who has been interim chief since last fall when Chief Gale Evans left to take a job for the port authority in Seattle.

Marlovits is chief of safety and security for the Roanoke Regional Airport Commission in Virginia. He has also worked in Tampa, Fla., as both an officer with the local police force and at the Tampa International Airport during his 34-year law enforcement career as well as serving in the U.S. Air Force.

Still undecided is the new police chief for the Salt Lake City Police Department.

Chief Rick Dinse has announced his retirement on March 31. The mayor's office has said previously an interim chief would likely be named at that time until a full-time replacement is appointed.
