HOOPER — The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' Hooper 3rd Ward was evacuated about 11 a.m. Sunday after a member found a threatening envelope in an elevator.

The exterior of the 8 1/2- by 11-inch envelope read, "This is a bomb. Do not open or it will explode," said Weber County Sheriff's Lt. Merv Taylor.

A Davis County bomb technician was brought in and determined the envelope was not a bomb. It contained only crumpled up pieces of paper, Taylor said. Police believe the envelope was a prank since there was nothing inside that could be considered an actual bomb, he said.

Members of the ward were allowed back into the building about 1 p.m., and worship services resumed, Taylor said.
