Former cheerleader suing district over accident
The varsity cheerleader was practicing with her teammates when she landed in a gap between two mats. According to court documents, she broke both ankles in the accident.
Her suit claims that the school district is responsible for the incident because it "failed to provide a safe school environment to engage in the authorized activities," court documents say. The mats they were using at the time were allegedly wrestling mats, not specific for cheerleading use.
As a result of her injury, the woman claims she was unable to compete for cheerleader scholarships or participate in other activities.
She is asking that the district pay past and future medical and rehabilitative expenses, lost wages and earning potential.
