CARSON CHRISTENSEN, South Sevier:

This senior-captain was named the tournament's most valuable player while leading his team to the 2A state championship. He was the team's leading scorer and was second in rebounds.

"Carson has been playing since his freshman year and was a three-year starter for us," said coach Scott Hunt. "His experience was something we relied on all year."

Christensen, who stands only 6-foot-1, anchored the middle of South Sevier's trapping-zone defense, the reason all the players and coaches said the team captured the title.

"He is so athletic and quick that he was able to do whatever we asked of him out on the floor," Hunt added. "He is just such a smart player. He did all the little things we needed from him."

JENTEAL JACKSON, Skyline:

The maturity, adaptability, athleticism and leadership of this sophomore point guard led the Eagles to their first girls basketball title since 1981 last weekend.

"In the middle of the season, when teams started to suffocate her, she really emerged as a true point guard," said Skyline coach Deb Bennett of the two-sport star. "She would find her teammates, run the plays and guide the team. She was a quarterback for us. She is very talented."

Jackson led the Eagles offensively against Mountain View in the 5A finals with 21 points, six rebounds and two steals. She hit five 3-point shots and then ran the Eagles spread offense in the fourth quarter, which increased the team's lead from one point to 10.

"The amazing thing was how the team responded to her," Bennett said. Jackson is an honor student who also participates in golf.
