Real Salt Lake drops match to Danish team
RSL's only goal of the match came in the 90th minute, and it was an own goal by Viborg defender Kingsley Onyenekwe.
"We came up against a well-organized Danish team that played very good soccer. Defensively, their back four were very strong and didn't allow us any space in the midfield," said RSL assistant coach Peter Mellor. "As a coaching staff we saw this game as a great opportunity to play an experienced, high-caliber team. It's the type of game you want during your preseason to prepare the players for the 2006 season."
Both Viborg goals came in the first half, the first on an Alex Norlund strike in the 13th minute and the second on a Martin Aslund tally in the 36th minute.
Salt Lake, now 5-2 in the preseason, returns to action on Friday in an exhibition match against Florida International University. RSL has eight more preseason games on tap before the season opener on April 2.
ENDLINES: Salt Lake's lineup for the match, with substitutes and minutes in parenthesis: Jay Nolly, Chris Brown, Carey Talley (Danny Torres, 45), Nelson Akwari, Gustavo Cabrera (Ryan Lewis, 45), Kevin Novak (Mehdi Ballouchy, 45), Andy Williams (Diego Walsh, 74), Seth Trembly (Ryan Johnson, 32), Jeff Cunningham, Atiba Harris (Jamie Watson, 76).
