House and Senate spar over tax cuts

Huntsman's office takes a swipe at the GOP

"We know where our body is, and we've been very clear about it all along," Urquhart said, referencing the $230 million tax cut. That number was arrived at "specifically" because it could include the removal of the sales tax off food at $160 million, a flatter tax cut of about $35 million, and business tax cuts of about $35 million.

"But what have we received from the Senate? We need to know what kind of a number we're working with, so we can put together a plan," he said.

A new calculator that will allow Utahns to figure out the effect of the govenror's and the House's tax plan is now online, at the Governor's Office Web site, www.utah.gov/governor.

It "shows the vast majority of taxpayers in the state will see healthy tax decreases as a result of the tax reform package," according to a release from the governor's office.
