Schedule for Orem's LDS Film Fest
Thursday, Jan. 19
2 p.m. Welcome from Festival Founder Christian Vuissa ("Baptists At Our Barbecue"). Free.
4 p.m. Howdytown
5:30 p.m. "Salt Lake to Mesa," directed by Thomas Storesund. Jack and Cameron carpool to Mesa, Ariz., as the only witnesses to a siblings' marriage. Jack's other reason for going is to see the love of his life with whom he's lost contact.
7:30 p.m. 24-hour Filmmaking Marathon Screenings. The short films made by more than 50 groups during the January marathon.
9:45 p.m. "The Saxon Chronicles," directed by Jeshua De Horta. Set in the 9th century, Alfred the Great, England's most influential and inspiring king, escapes his kingdom when it is attacked by Vikings. He finds himself the in company of some unusual friends.
10 a.m. Writer/producer Ben Gourley of "Moving McAllister," a new film by British director Andrew Black ("Pride and Prejudice"), in which Gourley co-stars with Jon Heder ("Napoleon Dynamite") and Mila Kunis ("That '70s Show"). Gourley will talk about the process of getting funding and making his first feature film.
11 a.m. Tim Skousen will discuss being a first-time director. Skousen's feature film "The Sasquatch Dumpling Gang" is in this year's Sundance Narrative Feature Competition. The film was produced by Jeremy Coon ("Napoleon Dynamite") and Kevin Spacey ("Superman Returns").
1 p.m. Kurt Hale will discuss directing a sports comedy meant to appeal outside the LDS audience. Hale's fourth feature film "Church Ball," will be released in March made with twice the budget of his previous films with some star power attached (Gary Coleman, Fred Willard, Andrew Wilson and Clint Howard). Hale will show clips.
