The brew, produced by Wasatch Beers, is intended to poke fun at the local and national debate over "intelligent design," the idea that life is too complex to be explained by Darwin's theory of evolution.

Valentine later told reporters that lawmakers were off to a quick start, with a number of controversial bills up for consideration in several committees today. "I think everyone wants to get in on a fast track," he said, in part because this is an election year for many.

The Senate president said again there's GOP support for one of those bills, an effort to ensure evolution is taught in schools only as a theory.

But Senate Minority Leader Mike Dmitrich, D-Price, said he believes the Democrats will be "totally opposed" to the bill, sponsored by Sen. Chris Buttars, R-West Jordan.

Buttars is carrying another bill — a ban on gay alliances in public schools — that has already attracted attention even though the issue has already been litigated. Buttars said that bill should be ready by the end of the week.

Dmitrich said "it seems like every election year" that lawmakers produce bills dealing with so-called moral issues.
