Salt Lake County Mayor Peter Corroon will present his vision for the future of the state's most populous county today.

In the annual State of the County address, Corroon will detail his four major priorities for Salt Lake County in 2006: quality of life, public safety, economic business and development, and quality government.

Corroon says he wants to clean up the scandal-ridden county's image by providing an open, honest, ethical and fiscally responsible local government.

He said he wants the county to set an example by protecting and preserving the county's foothills, watershed and open space, all while establishing a long-range coordinated environmental plan with all jurisdictions in the county.

The Unified Police Department is also one of Corroon's top priorities, as well as investing in alternatives to incarceration like the Salt Lake County Offender Reform Act, a program where jail inmates can swap jail time for outpatient treatment. The Democratic mayor also wants to support the county's small businesses.

The speech starts at 10 a.m. in the Salt Lake County Council chambers on the first floor of the north building at the Salt Lake County Government Center, 2001 S. State.
