Tourism arm a failure?

Grover's unhappy over funding for convention, visitors bureau

"We're starting to see some partnerships," he said. "We've done some cooperative advertising, we've shared expense on some trade shows and other cooperative efforts with the community. But we're looking to do more. It's in our plan this year to try and increase that."

Such partnerships will be needed in order for the commission to approve UVCVB business plans in the future, Ellertson said.

"It shouldn't all be upon the CVB to do the promotions for tourism. Those businesses benefit as well," he said. "I didn't want to pull the proverbial rug out from underneath them when they think they're moving in a positive direction. They've got some ideas as to what they're going to do to make that happen. Hopefully they can do that."

The county's contract with the UVCVB has a six-month clause allowing the county to grip that rug and pull if it decides to do so, Grover said.

"I'm definitely going to look at it again, because it's not going the direction I had hoped," he said.
