PROVO — BYU and Utah Valley State pair up for a first-ever regular-season meeting in women's basketball as the 7-0 Cougars play host to the 2-6 Wolverines today.

Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. at the Marriott Center.

The two previously have met in exhibition games in recent years.

Enjoying its best start in school history, BYU is coming off last week's 82-48 home rout of Northern Arizona, in which the Cougars shot 58 percent from the floor.

Senior forward Ambrosia Anderson leads BYU in scoring and rebounding with per-game averages of 22.1 points and 9.7 rebounds. Junior center Dani Kubik and sophomore guard Mallary Gillespie add identical averages of 10.0 points and 6.0 boards, while reserve center Lauren Riley contributes 7.1 points and 6.4 rebounds off the bench.

Winless on the road so far this season, UVSC is looking to rebound from its recent 74-51 loss at Utah State, the first of a series of instate game for the Wolverines, who travel next Tuesday to Southern Utah.

Three Utah Valley players average in double figures, led by freshman forward/center Robyn Fairbanks at 14.0 points and 7.5 rebounds. A pair of former Utah County prep standouts follow in senior Miriam Palkki (Timpview) at 11.6 points and 6.6 boards and freshman Sandy Marvin (Payson) at 11.5 points.

UVSC head coach Cathy Nixon will be returning to her alma mater, having starred for the Cougars for four seasons in the late 1980s. She remains BYU's fourth all-time leading scorer with 1.771 points.

Following the UVSC game, BYU will host North Carolina State on Wednesday night.
