OREM — Originally written by James and Lisa Arrington as a puppet show, "Santa's Workshop" has evolved into a holiday play for Utah Valley State College after it was staged as an LDS stake play and a recording for Covenant Communications.

"I had to rewrite is a bit for school standards, so it's kind of brand new," James Arrington said. "But it's so bright and happy that it's really for kids of all ages. It's a great little show."

Lisa Arrington is an accomplished musician in her own right and wrote the music for "Santa's Workshop," a 55-minute play set at the North Pole.

The elves have to save Christmas when Santa decides to retire. All the characters, including Mr. and Mrs. Claus, will be played by UVSC students along with three children from Salem: Braden, Chantell and Dalen Ficklin.

"This play is a great way to give your holidays a lift," said Elaine Hansen, director and choreographer. "This is a great family event with energetic dancing, fabulous costumes and a wonderful set."
