Answer: I don't think there's any question that the name's going to change. We're going to have university status, and so "university" is going to be in the name. Now whether it's Utah Valley University or Utah Valley State University, I don't know and I don't have any say over. Either one I'm fine with. I feel very confident that we need to keep "Utah Valley." We've created an identity with that. Some people want to change that, thinking we're stereotyping ourselves too much into just Utah Valley. But we're known by that name, and to change that would really set us back quite a bit. UVU or UVSU, either one I'm good with.

Question: Is there a possibility that you will ever have a football program here?

Answer: That's the second-most popular question right now. I don't ever say never. We've tried a couple different times and been turned down, but both those times we were a junior college and some of the schools thought we'd just be a farm team for BYU, so the other schools kind of lobbied against us. Right now we're in a whole different dynamic. We have a couple I-AA schools in the state in Weber and Southern Utah, so they're always looking for competition and people to play. So I don't think we'd have that opposition now, but it's a huge financial commitment for us. There are some people on campus that would like to see it, especially our students. If the money was to come together, and we could put together a three- or four- or five-year program where we could put things in place and play football, I think it would be great. Our problem is we have no facilities. We don't have a football field. We don't have a locker room. We don't have anything for football. We don't have a helmet. We don't have anything, so we would have to start literally from scratch.

Question: Estimate-wise, how much would it cost to do that?

Answer: You're looking at around a two million dollar a year investment. That's kind of the average of what schools are paying for it. That'd probably be at the low end, but for two million, we could start the program and we could be competitive with it just like we are for everything else.

Question: Could you address some of the problems you've had with scheduling for men's basketball? Weber State is the only in-state Division I school that would schedule you this year. The other in-state teams won't play you home-and-home — what's that been like?
