A plan to create the Salt Lake County Fleet Management Board was approved Tuesday without discussion by the Salt Lake County Council.

The 5-0 vote established a seven-member board to oversee everything the county's fleet division buys, sells or decides.

The board was created after several scandals in the county's fleet division this year amid a lack of oversight, including county vehicles being used for personal vacations, fleet managers receiving questionable amounts of overtime pay, and a fleet supervisor facing allegations of running an illegal DVD business out of fleet headquarters.

The Fleet Management Board will monitor and review matters regarding fleet management. It also will provide policy direction on vehicle use, replacement and other operations, as well as oversee the fleet's budget and expenses. The board also will propose fleet policies for adoption by the County Council.
