JOSH SHAW, Morgan: The state's leading scorer has been on a tear in the first two weeks of the season.

In two games last week, Shaw tallied 68 points and nine 3-pointers. On Wednesday, he poured in 42 points in a 75-65 victory over Bear River. Two nights later he racked up 26 points in a 75-65 win over Sky View.

Through three games, Shaw is averaging 29.0 points and 3.3 3-pointers per game.

As a junior last year, Shaw averaged 12.3 points for a Morgan team that was undefeated until a state-semifinal loss to Wasatch. If Shaw keeps performing at his current level, not only will he contend for the state scoring crown but also Morgan will be contending for the 3A state championship as well.

HALEY HALL, Clearfield: This point guard has been the Falcons' hoops star since she was a sophomore, but in her senior season she's also emerging as the team's leader.

"She's quiet; she doesn't yell on the floor," said Clearfield coach and Haley's dad, Dorne Hall. "But she'll come over to me and say this is what we need to do. She's definitely a leader, and she understands the game very well."

Hall's efforts have been outstanding with a triple-double in the game against Bountiful — 17 points, 11 steals, 13 assists, and she grabbed seven rebounds. Friday she hit the game-tying shot at the end of the first overtime against Lone Peak in the team's second win and scored 35 points in that contest.
