Luz Robles has been named director of the Utah Office of Ethnic Affairs.

Robles, 27, had been serving in the governor-appointed post on an interim basis since July.

The post is a new position and is under the umbrella of the Utah Department of Community and Culture. Robles is responsible for providing direction and oversight for the offices of Black, Asian, Hispanic and Pacific Islander affairs, and for administering the office's new strategic plan.

Robles previously served as multicultural health policy analyst for Utah Issues for one year and had been active in the nonprofit organization for four years before that.

Robles has two bachelor's degrees, in business marketing and public administration, from the University of Utah. Robles is a native of Mexico. She moved to Utah in 1996.
