White City hopes to make itself a township
But county official says community fails to meet the criteria

Council members will likely decide whether to grant township status in coming weeks, but Hendrickson said he's still not sure why residents even want a township.
"Why beats the devil out of me," he said. "I don't see that it serves much of a benefit."
White City resident Paulina Flint said that township status is invaluable because it guarantees she will not one day be part of Sandy and subjected to city taxes. The township designation also would set White City apart as its own community, although Flint said the area already feels like a separate tight-knit group.
"To adopt another layer of government and pay taxes to that is really not wise and would probably remove some of the affordable status of our community," Flint said. "The whole concept is that if there is ever a merger between Sandy and White City it should be as whole communities, not piecemeal annexation."
