Clearfield's mayor still plans to run — as write-in

CLEARFIELD — Clearfield Mayor Tom Waggoner will run as a write-in candidate during the Nov. 8 general election. Waggoner lost by a mere 18 votes during this month's primary election.

"I'm doing it because I've had so many people tell me that if they had only known, they would have gone out and voted," said Waggoner, a two-term mayor.

He admitted his campaign would be an "uphill battle" but said he had a plan to educate the public about write-in candidates.

During the Oct. 4 primary election, about 10 percent of Clearfield residents voted. Candidate Dan Phelps received 536 votes while Mark Shepherd had 402.

Waggoner had 384 votes.

Top issues in the Clearfield mayor's race include community revitalization, spending and whether to move the Clearfield commuter rail station.
