On Nov. 18, the series concludes with the film that John Ford called his personal favorite of his own pictures, the 1950 classic "Wagon Master," starring Ward Bond as the leader of a group of Mormon pioneers on their way to Utah territory. Ben Johnson and Harry Carey Jr. are the two cowpunchers who sign up to lead them along the way.
Sharon Lee Swenson, of BYU's theater and media-arts department, will introduce this one.
The program that night will also include two fondly remembered short films made by the LDS Church in the 1960s "Man's Search for Happiness" (1964), which was originally produced for the World's Fair, and "The Three Witnesses" (1968).
"Happiness" will be introduced by Bryce Chamberlain, who played a central character in the film.
The series will be shown in the Harold B. Lee Library on the BYU campus. Each program begins at 7 p.m. (Doors open at 6:30 p.m.) Admission is free, but no one under age 8 will be admitted, and no food or drink is allowed in the auditorium.
By the way, those strict rules of moviegoing at BYU sit just fine with me. If only they'd ban cell phones.
