During their regular meeting today, Davis County commissioners are scheduled to approve or reject a resolution authorizing the issuance of up to $2.5 million in revenue bonds.

The bonds, if approved, will be used toward the construction of a new Department of Motor Vehicles building in Farmington. The state currently leases space for DMV services within the Davis County Courthouse; the new building would give the agency its own home.

A specific site for the new building has yet to be determined, said Kent Sulser, with Davis County Community and Economic Development. Plans for the building include drive-through services, he said. The new building would be a two-story facility.

Bonds for the DMV would be repaid through lease payments from the state facility services division, according to Sulser. A lease term has yet to be decided, but the bonds could be repaid over the next seven or eight years, said Sulser. An option to renew the lease term for five years is available.

If the bonds are approved, construction could begin next spring, with the new Davis County DMV opening next fall.

The Davis County Courthouse is home to the only full-service DMV in Davis County.

In other news, Davis commissioners are expected to announce the implementation date for a new program that offers discounts on prescription drugs. The National Association of Counties prescription drug discount card program, is designed to help residents with no insurance coverage receive a discount on prescription drugs.

Additional information is expected to be detailed today.
