Sherrin Pelton, 55, a Realtor with no previous political experience, wrote that growth and finances are the city's biggest issues. "In order to provide service to the community and its people, government must work together with business, not against it," she wrote. "Business is the lifeblood of the community. It keeps property taxes down and provides the services necessary for its citizens."
Karen Shaeffer, 45, an insurance agent who has been marketing director for the West Jordan Chamber of Commerce, wrote that in the face of growth, "We need to have proper direction on how to bring in economic development for the city. We need to learn to spend as we go instead of buy now and pay later." She wrote that mass transit and good roads are needed and debt and fees need to be reduced. She wrote that the sign ordinance needs to be changed, residents and businesses need to have more of a voice, and "we need to become a place where people can live, work and play."
Jay Sheen did not respond to the questionnaire and could not be reached for comment.
