A 2nd arrest in 1995 killing
Patricia G. Bencomo, 32, was picked up when officers responded to a call of a male attempting to use bogus identification when applying for credit at an RC Willey furniture store in South Salt Lake. Bencomo was with the man and was identified as having a warrant out for her arrest, said South Salt Lake Police Capt. Chris Snyder.
"She was with the man committing fraud and therefore was part of the investigation," Snyder said. "It was just a matter of her being in the wrong place at the wrong time."
Bencomo is believed to have been with a group, including three men, who broke into an apartment near 3900 South and 800 West, on Halloween night in 1995. Police say the group was looking for drugs and money.
An argument ensued, and 17-year-old Arian Salguero Huerta was shot and killed. Another man was also shot but survived. The would-be robbers fled.
Medical examiners later determined Huerta died from a gunshot wound to his chest, according to court documents.
The man she was with was also booked for investigation of felony charges of possession of forged documents and identity fraud.
