LaMont Smith, 69, is seeking his third, non-consecutive term on the City Council. Smith wants a fire station for the SunCrest development on the ridge above Draper, and he proposes using money from a redevelopment agency project to fund open space in Corner Canyon.

Smith also favors building a senior center, perhaps "from selling the old center and using those funds for construction of a new building," he said. "As developable land becomes scarce, commercial development is needed to offset one-time revenues from building permits and fees."

Jeff Stenquist, 35, believes supporting economic development and the money it brings in will allow him to better support parks, trails, public arts and historic preservation.

Stenquist favors moving the state prison so that Draper can develop on that 750 acres. It is "an exciting opportunity to develop that property creatively for the benefit of Draper and surrounding communities," he said.

He wants to preserve the Corner Canyon open space and manage Draper's rapid growth "to maintain our sense of community as we strive to provide services and infrastructure for new residents."

Troy K. Walker, 38, wants to create more open space in Draper by forming parks, cycling and walking trails, and soccer or baseball fields. Also, Walker wants "a cohesive town center and a family feel to persist in Draper," he said.

"I will see to it that commercial development is placed correctly and cohesively blends in with residential and other types of development," he said.

Planning the development, Walker said, will make Draper the most desirable city in the state.
