What is the Legacy Parkway?

Legacy is a planned 14-mile, limited-access highway stretching from North Salt Lake to Farmington. The road is designed as an alternative to I-15 in Davis County.

Why hasn't it been built?

Environmentalists have opposed the roadway since its conception in 1996 as part of a larger vision, the Legacy Highway. In 2001, the Sierra Club, Utahns for Better Transportation and Salt Lake City Mayor Rocky Anderson filed a lawsuit that halted construction of the road. The Utah Department of Transportation was told to review five environmental impacts of the road.

When will it be built?

A final environmental study of the road is expected to be released in late October or early November. Any changes to the environmental study must be made before it is released for public review. If there are no court challenges to the study, UDOT anticipates construction will begin in early 2006.
