Comments sought on TRAX plan
Several residents with homes abutting the proposed light-rail line were in attendance. While generally supportive, many had concerns about noise and impact to their property values.
"It sounds like a good plan, it will do a lot, but it's hard when you're the one right next to it," said Laura Smith of West Jordan, who attended the open house with her husband. "We've been in situations before where they tell us what they want to do to help, but will we see the results of that?"
The Smiths' home abuts the proposed TRAX line. Officials with the Utah Transit Authority say they are working on several solutions to decrease the impact of noise and vibrations, but there will be an impact.
Regardless, it's important for the public to comment on proposed plans for the TRAX extension, said Justin Jones, spokesman for the Utah Transit Authority. Comments received will be individually responded to, as required by federal law.
"We want to hear that this is going to impact someone's house," said Jones. "This is the time to tell us of that impact."
