Political will for a tax increase is currently lacking in Utah County. Timing for an extension into Utah County is now "open," said Inglish, although he has "no question" that commuter rail will eventually extend to Payson.

"I would say we're waiting for Utah County to establish their priorities," he said.

As for Davis and Weber counties, Davis Commissioner Dannie McConkie said he is more than happy to welcome the coming of commuter rail. He appeared almost emotional at the groundbreaking as he spoke of the "importance" of the train system.

"The yet unborn citizens of this region will applaud the efforts of this time," said McConkie. "Folks, this is really, really a big, big deal."
