Huntsman boosting Utah-Mexico ties

In addition to business, immigration is also on the governor's agenda in Mexico. Huntsman said he expects to fill in the Mexican president on Utah's recent switch to so-called driving privilege cards, which cannot be used for identification purposes.

"I know they're interested in what we have done. It's a little bit of an aberration," the governor said of the cards, modeled after what Tennessee offers to immigrants who have no Social Security cards. So far, only the two states have such cards, but others soon may follow.

Huntsman backed the switch to the new cards. He also said he will also talk with Fox about the flow of Mexican immigrants into Utah.

And, the governor said, "about what can be done in terms of putting greater pressure on Washington" to speed up the process by which immigrants can become U.S. citizens, something already being pressed by the Mexican government.

"I know they have tried. I think governors need to try perhaps a little more aggressively than they have in the past," Huntsman said. "In the post 9/11 world, things are grinding along very slowly in that particular area."
